Day of Coordinator vs. Wedding Planner

As a wedding coordinator, I am frequently referred to by friends, family, and clients as a wedding planner. While the two often have some cross over, your wedding coordinator is totally different from a wedding planner. Let me break it down!

Wedding planner:

A wedding planner is exactly that - the person you rely on to support you in planning your wedding. From booking vendors, to event design, to budget, your wedding planner helps you to really create your day. Every wedding planner offers their spin on a package, but in many cases, your planner is with you from engagement to honeymoon and everywhere in between.

Wedding coordinator:

A wedding coordinator comes in as you get closer to the big day. Rather than helping you plan the big day, they help you to put all of your plans into action. Creation of timeline, ceremony outline, rehearsal management, and full day support are covered by your coordinator. Your coordinator learns about you, your wedding, and your vision, and makes sure every detail is executed to perfection.

Is there something in between a planner and a coordinator?

To put it short - yes. Many coordinators or planners offer a partial planning option that meets you in the middle. When you’re earlier in the process and need help finding vendors, figuring out your vision, or just deciding where to start, many partial planning packages will help give you the guidance you need to help you plan your day.

What about a venue coordinator?

Venue coordinators can be a huge help, however they are not the same as a wedding coordinator. The venue coordinator is there to make sure that you have what you need at the venue, but rarely much more.

So which one do I need?

How would you describe yourself / wedding plans?

  1. I don’t even know where to begin. I have a few ideas but I’m not sure what I’m doing or how to really do this.

  2. I’ve had my vendors booked since the day I got engaged, but now what?

  3. I booked my venue, but I’m struggling to find the right caterer. I have a vision, but planning is stressful and confusing.

If you’re a 1 - a planner is likely the best place to start.

If you’re a 2 - a wedding coordinator is going to be the perfect fit.

If you’re a 3 - a partial planning package will help you feel stress free while you finish planning.

Still unsure what you need? Reach out - we’re happy to help you figure out what the perfect solution is for you!

No matter where you are in your planning process, we 100% recommend having someone there to help you support you. Weddings are fun and beautiful, but they can also be stressful! Hiring the perfect pro will make that stress disappear and allow you to enjoy your partner and your perfect day.

Hope this helps!
